Why I Started My Planner Business: The Search for Freedom and Balance

I was once stuck in a cycle where work felt more like a burden than a passion. As a mother of four with narcolepsy, it became increasingly difficult to juggle my condition, my family, and the demands of a traditional 9-to-5 job. The lack of flexibility and the inability to manage my health and personal life effectively made every day a challenge.

This is when I realized that if I wanted true balance where I could work around my needs and be present for my family—I had to take control of my life. That’s when the idea of starting my own planner business took root. I knew that planners, stationery, and organizing tools had always been a passion of mine, and I believed I could create products something that I loved and hopefully other people loved as well.

I wanted freedom, not just from a job, but from the restrictions of rigid schedules and inflexible work hours. The beauty of running my own business is that I get to create the structure that works for me. I can prioritize self-care, take breaks when needed, and spend time with my kids without having to ask for time off or worry about missing out.

It wasn’t an easy transition—becoming a full-time business owner came with its own set of challenges. From managing every aspect of the business alone to working long hours without much rest, I faced moments where I questioned whether I made the right decision. But every small step forward felt empowering.

I chose planners as the focus of my business because they’ve always been a tool that brings me peace. Organizing my thoughts and plans has been crucial to managing my narcolepsy and staying on top of everything in my busy life. I wanted to share that with others—helping people regain control of their days .

Though I’m still working from a small storage unit and am the only one running the business, I have big dreams for the future, definitely moving into a space where I can design and print planners in-house is the dream.

Ultimately, the freedom to work on my own terms, create products that make a difference, and live a life on my own schedule is why I started my business. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

In conclusion, Starting this business wasn’t just about becoming an business owner—it was about regaining control over my life, finding balance, and being able to show up for my family while doing what I love. If you’re looking for more freedom and balance, I hope my journey shows that with determination, a little creativity, and the right tools, it’s possible to create the life you want.
